The Naugatuck Valley Community
College
The Mattatuck Astronomical Society and The
Naugatuck Valley Community College have a symbiotic relationship. Some of
the services we provide to the college are
- Public observations sessions based on two Saturdays per
month with two members of the society at these sessions.
- Running the N. V. C. C Astronomy Club including program
preparation
- Telephone communications. To include making
arrangements with groups interested in scheduling time for observations
(scouts, schools, groups etc.). Here is where having two or more MAS
members on site will be a great advantage in dealing with large numbers of
people.
- Maintenance of equipment. Setting up and organizing
equipment for observation sessions and properly returning all equipment to
storage. Keeping inventory and making adjustments as necessary.
- Observation Session Preparation:
- Developing the skills of new MAS personnel in
observational astronomy to enhance the existing program.
- Tracking special events:
- Occultation's
- Eclipses
- Conjunctions
- Comets
- Managing work schedule for personnel.
