"For the fun of it!"
Submitter by Brian Brick,
Because of the notoriety Mars has received in the last few months of 2003. Brian thought if fitting to make the parallel between the 1953 movie and our picnic and observation session in September 2003.
Summary: One of the best science fiction films to come out of the 1950's. SPOILERS
The martians invade the world and hijinks ensue!!!!!! This film has some great touches and to this day still looks great. First off we actually, see a alien and it looks really cool. (It's not a method actor painted blue or something) The alien warships and the effect for their blister shields are a neat concept. There's a lot of "neat" things in this film. The effects were ahead of their time. This project along with THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL and FORBIDDEN PLANET, stand out form other 1950's films because they had quality to them. They weren't the "shake and bake" 1950's film's like IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE and THIS ISLAND EARTH that were whipped together for get rich quick reasons. I recommend this film to anyone who wants to watch a film without the politically correct overtones of today's Hollywood fare. One interesting thing about how mankind dispatches the aliens...they die from our germs and our smog. All hail L.A. and it's smog banks!
